Two Color Newborn Socks

Fingering/baby weight wool in
two colors
Size 1 double pointed needles, set of 4
Gauge: 8 st/1" Length: 3 ½" foot, heel to toe
Color A: Cast on 40 sts and divide on three needles (14,12,14) K1,
P1 rib for 8 rounds
Color B: Knit 4 rounds
Color A: K1, P1 for one round
Color B: P1, K1 for one round Knit 2 rounds (cut Color B)
Color A: Do Heel: K 10 sts, place remaining 4 sts on instep needle, turn
Sl 1, P19, place remaining 4 sts with instep
sts, dividing instep sts on two needles
Sl 1, K1, to end
Sl 1, purl to end
Repeat last two rows 5 times more, for a total
of six "V" sts in the heel
Turn Heel: Sl 1, K11, ssk, K1,
turn (5 sts left)
Sl 1, P5, P2tog, P1, turn (5 sts left)
Sl 1, K6, ssk, K1, turn (3 sts left)
Sl 1, P7, P2tog, P1, turn (3 sts left)
Sl 1, K8, ssk, K1, turn (1 st left)
Sl 1, P9, P2tog, P1, turn (1 st left)
Sl 1, K10, ssk, turn (0 st left)
Sl 1, P10, P2tog, turn (0 st left)
Sl 1, K11 (12 heel sts total left) (cut Color
A)
Color B: Gusset: Pick up 8 sts on side of heel flap (needle 1) Knit
across instep sts, placing all 20 on one
needle (needle 2) Pick up 8 sts on
side of heel, and also knit 6 sts from heel (middle of heel beginning
of round) (48 sts total)
Knit one round even
Decrease Round: Needle 1: K to last 3 sts,
K2tog, K1
Needle 2: Knit across
Needle 3: K1, ssk, K to end
Do decrease round every round 4 times, until 10
gusset sts remain on each side,
40 sts total remain again
Foot: Knit 14 rounds even, or until
¾" short of desired length Knit to end of needle 1 (cut Color B)
Color A: Toe Decrease: (needle 1-10 sts, needle 2-20 sts, needle
3-10 sts)
Needle 2: K1, ssk, K to last 3 sts,
K2tog, K1
Needle 3: K1 ssk, K to end of needle
Needle 1: K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1
Repeat decrease round every round until 8 sts
left.
Draw yarn through these 8 sts to finish off.
