INFANT SOCKS

Fine fingering weight Yarn
Size 1 double pointed needles (set of 4)

Cast on 40 sts, divide these stitches onto 3 needles in this manner, 10 sts on #1 needle, 20 sts on #2 needle and 10 sts on #3 needles. Join, making sure the sts are not twisted. Work in rounds.

LEG

Work K1, P1 ribbing for 3 inches

HEEL FLAP
R 1: Knit 10 sts of #1 needle, turn.
R 2: Purl 10 sts of #1 needles, purl 10 sts from #3 needle.
You will work on these 20 sts only.
R 3: (Sl 1, K1) repeat across.
R 4: Slip first st then purl to end.
R 5: (Sl 1, K1) repeat across.
Repeat R 4-5 six more times.

HEEL TURNING
Sl 1, P 10, P2tog, P1, turn.
Sl 1, K 3, K2tog, K 1, turn.
Sl 1, P 4, P2tog, P 1, turn.
Sl 1, K 5, K2tog,K 1, turn.
Continue in this manner, working one st more each time.
End after a Knit row.

GUSSET
Pick up and K 8 sts along the side of heel flap.
With another needle K 20 sts on #2 needle.
With another needle pick up and K 8 sts along side of heel flap, K 6 sts from #1 needle.
Rnds begin at this point (bottom of sock.)

INSTEP
R 1: K to last 2 sts of #1 needle, K2tog, K across #2 needle, on needle #3, ssk, knit across.
R 2: Knit
Repeat R 1-2 until there are 36 sts (total) remaining. Readjust stitches so there are 9 sts on #1 needle, 18 sts on #2 needle and 9 sts on #3 needle.
Knit 6 R even.

TOE
R 1: K to last 2 sts on #1 needle, K2tog, #2 needle ssk, K across to last 2 sts, K2tog, #3 needle ssk, K across.
R 2: Knit.
Repeat these two rounds until 16 (total) sts remain.
Graft toe stitches together.
