Afghans is a humanitarian and educational people-to-people project
that
sends hand-knit and crocheted blankets, hats, mittens, sweaters, vests,
and
VIP SOCKS to the beleaguered people of Afghanistan.
Afghanistan has seen both progress and setbacks since late 2001, and the need for our garments and our caring continues. Join us in sending a tangible message of concern, hope, and friendship to Afghan children who still suffer from oppression, war, hunger, poverty, and sickness. Your participation is important.
Knit your favorite sock pattern or try something new -- you have plenty of latitude to select the design. The need for wool and wool-blend (with a majority percentage of wool!) socks for children (and adults, if you prefer) is always great. Please avoid very light colors that soil more easily. Afghan children like all colors. The brighter, the merrier.
Your gifts are needed by
September to ensure that our warm and colorful items arrive before the cold
winter. Shipping to Central Asia takes a long time. If you are going to participate
once this year or have been thinking about joining us, now is the time.

afghans for Afghans partners with the San Francisco office of the American Friends Service Committee and International Orphan Care to dependably collect, ship, and distribute our handmade gifts. We cannot accept used items, scarves, ear warmers, or toys.
Please help spread the word to offline fiber friends, guilds, your local yarn shop, your local newspaper -- we have a handy downloadable PDF information flyer linked from the left side of our homepage. The word-of-mouth is invaluable in helping us reach the challenge of clothing 5,000 Afghan children.
We extend our gratitute to all who have sent in lovingly made gifts. Thank you for caring and for taking action. We will not forget the Afghan people as long as we continue to have your involvement.
