I purchased this book for my niece, who has wanted to learn to knit socks since she saw some of mine. As another reviewer said, for $6.95 it can't be beat for a great book with basic patterns to introduce someone to the addiction of sock knitting. The basic information in the front of the book answers a lot of questions for the beginning sock knitter. For consistency with the instructions for the socks in the book, I would have liked it if the heel flap information (in the basic instructions in the front of the book) had been identified separately from the "turning the heel" instructions. Each of the sock patterns (except for "This Little Pinky" and "Toe the Line") identifies the heel flap separately from the turning the heel, gusset and foot. I just think this would be helpful to beginning sock knitters (for whom the book was written). I know that my niece is going to enjoy this book (as soon as I find another copy, since I've decided to keep this copy for *my* library! ;-) |

I work part-time in a yarn store and frequently recommend this book to beginning sock knitters as is clearly explains the parts of the sock. The patterns are all worked up in DK or sport weight yarn, so the work goes quickly. My only criticism is that the instructions are for sets of 4 double pointed needles rather than five. I think it is better for beginning sock knitters to hold the stitches on 4 needles and knit with the fifth. |
