This book features 15 designs which are definitely, as the subtitle says, "inspired by nature". Nine designs are rated as intermediate and five as advanced, with only one beginner design, so this book is best utilized by those with considerable knitting experience. Basically the featured designs fall into two categories. There are complicated colorwork patterns, most of which have a Native American or Southwestern appearance. Especially intriguing is the "Puzzlemaker Jacket" which is created of interlocking, garter-stitch triangles. Another standout design is the "Northern Lights Jacket", knitted in slipstitch mosaic using uncharacteristically bright colors. The second category of designs features single-color arans and guernseys, which offer nothing paticularly unusual, but are standard and serviceable designs. Many yarn types are used in these designs, from 100% cotton to DK weight to worsted. Finished chest sizes run from 40" to 52". There is a very small section on Basic Knitting Techniques (only three pages). This book is not for everyone, but interesting nonetheless. |

Enjoyed the book. Lots of color and interesting designs. I wish I had the time to work all the patterns. Maybe at a later date. Must work with easy patterns now so I can see results quickly. Love to try the Puzzlemaker Jacket when I have the time. |
