Dear Stacey; The border of the sock is in a stitch called razor shell. It is a 14 st repeat and you may arrange these on the needles any way you want. I put 3 repeats on each of 2 needles and 2 repeats on one needle. This way, each needle started with the k1 of the pattern. As to the yo, it is purled on the next row.
