I have completed the tops of both socks using the simplest pattern. I had planned to do the entire sock in pattern, but discovered I had already made a pair of socks out of the needed second color. (hint: check for yarn before starting) But, I decided to just do the legs in the design and the rest of the sock plain. I used Berella Country Garden in shrimp and white. Did ribbing on 48 sts with #2 needles. Increased to 52 sts for leg, back down to 48 before starting heel flap. Now, here's my problem: I like to go down a need size for the flap and heel turn ( and sometimes the entire foot) for more durability. I had 24 sts on heel flap. Did the honeycomb st with garter border of 3 sts on each side and plan to do the dutch heel. When I had completed 12 right side rows (half of 24) the flap was way too short! So I did 16 right side rows and had 1 1/2 inches for the flap. By the time I do the rows for the heel, I will have the 16 loops to pick up for the gusset, plus the side of the heel sts. I have had this trouble before and simply skip a few of the loops. Is there a better way to handle this? Could I decrease gusset every round at first? For how many rounds? Sorry to be soooo long winded, but, if something can be said in two words, it takes me ten! Thanks.
