Newborn Socks In preparation (nesting) for my 2nd child's upcoming birth, I made newborn size socks. I created the pattern myself since I couldn't find anything small enough and would like to share it with you. And since this is my first attempt at writing out a pattern, please feel free to let me know your comments. (Please mail me directly since I'm setting nomail for maternity leave.) Baby Weight cotton or wool 5 dp size 0 (2mm) Gauge= 8 st/in st.st. Cast on very loosely (or on a larger needle) 24 sts. Divide on 4 needles, (6 each) join. Mark beginning. Work in k1 p1 rib for 1.5", more if you want a fold-down cuff. k 5 rnds. At the start of the 6th round, k the sts on needle 1 onto needle 1 up to the last st. Heel: TURN sequence: slip 1, yo, turn work around, slip 1, yo. Follow TURN for last st, p10, TURN, k9, TURN, p8, TURN, k7, TURN, p6, TURN, k6, TURN, p6, TURN, k7, TURN, p8, TURN, k9, TURN, p10, TURN, k5, add 5th needle and cont to k rnd. Instep and toe: K 1.75" from heel. Dec 1 at the end of needle 1, beg of needle 2, end of needle 3 and beg of needle 4 (dec rnd). K 5 rnds. Work dec round until there 2 sts on each needle(8 total) remain. Weave toe together. Repeat for second sock.
