Heel problems

I did two heel swatches and I still think they're "holey" looking. I then did a smaller swatch and turned it into the Nose Warmer my DD has always wanted LOL. Afterwards did the actual sock heel but I am not pleased with the look of my heel, it is too lacy :^\) I have successfully done Joyce Williams heels, but she only short-rows in, not back out. Do I need to pull the stitches tighter on the decreases?
