Lesson Five - Turning this thing into a sock
Lesson Five -
Now it’s time to turn this thing into a sock!*************************
Shape toe and finish off as desired.
If you have a favorite toe shaping, do it now,
then skip to **. Warning: you have an odd number of stitches not divisible by
4-you’ll have to fudge a bit to end up with what you are used to at the end.
My instructions below include this fudge factor on the last round.
If you need instructions for toe shaping, continue:
Mentally label your needles #1 (11 sts, bottom of foot), #2 (25 sts, instep), #3 (11 sts, bottom of foot)
Rnd 1: On #1, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1, on #2, k1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2
tog, k1, on #3, k1, ssk, k to end.
Rnd 2: Knit
Rep Rnds 1 and 2 until 13 sts rem.
Rep Rnd 1 only until 17 sts rem.
On #1, knit, on #2, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. [16 sts]
Cut yarn, leaving 14-16" tail for grafting.
Slide sts from #3 onto #1, so that you have 8 sts on each of two needles. Graft opening.

**RS facing, using mattress stitch and ends of MC and A which you left hanging from your work, sew back seam of sock, matching pattern at edges.
This is the part above the heel and up through the ribbing. For examples of how to do mattress stitch, refer to your favorite book or on-line source, or try:

RS facing, using mattress stitch and MC, sew both instep seams, joining shaped edge of gusset to side of instep. Weave in all ends.
Congratulations! You now have an argyle sock!
